Our series At Home with Plyroom is an opportunity to show our pieces where they’re meant to be - at use and well-loved in a real home. After exploring the beautiful and warm home of Alice and Gus in Fitzroy North we were delighted to take a peek at the Northcote apartment of Mat Pember, founder of Melbourne's great sustainability focused Little Veggie Patch Co and dad to Emi and Marlowe.
Small footprint living
Mat Pember lives in a small inner-city apartment on a busy street in Northcote. Stepping inside instantly shrugs off the busy exterior as you enter a calm space that feels custom made for Mat and his family.
Mat’s apartment is a great example of living large in a smaller space. His minimalist furniture and light, lofty interior is punctuated by the tell-tale signs of life with children: hand-painted ceramics, Lego, glittery wands and patterned duvet covers.
More than just designer beds
We love seeing our products in real homes. For all of the pared-back styling on our Instagram feed, we know that reality contains a lot more rough-and-tumble and changing needs which is why we design our kids’ furniture and modern storage for durability and adaptability. We know (as demonstrated by the girls using the Flat Out Queen Bed as a trampoline - sorry Mat) that our beds are crafted to withstand real life.
Kids beds with storage
The girls’ bedroom, with little more than 12m² of floor space, features our Castello Bunk Bed. Even though we have evolved the design over time, our kids bunk beds and loft beds are enduringly designed for small rooms and spatial efficiency.
Like many of our beds with storage, the Castello Bunk has room for additional storage or a third mattress when paired with our Underbed Drawer. And unbeknownst to most, it can hold up to 360kg which will handle even the most rambunctious of children and their parents for bedtime tuck-ins and story time.
No visit to Mat's would be complete without unearthing a carrot or two...
